NHTSA, the American Transportation Security Administration, has initiated an investigation into a tragic accident involving a Tesla Model Y in Virginia. The accident, in which the vehicle collided a truck causing the driver´s death, raises the question of whether the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) of the car was possibly involved. So far, Tesla has failed to respond to the accident, which reignites the debate about the safety and responsibility of the ADAS.

Since 2016, the NHTSA has examined more than 30 cases where Tesla vehicles were involved in incidents suspected of using ADAS. These tragic accidents killed 23 people. The controversial autopilot from Tesla should keep the vehicle within the lane and support the driver in various driving tasks. Nevertheless, the company emphasizes that the driver must constantly monitor the vehicle and mantain complete control.
